Our landlord’s acting as mediator in the Tavern today, amid an ongoing debate between two sets of Chelsea supporters propping up opposing ends of the bar.
Some simply love star striker Diego Costa and can’t think of anything worse than watching him leave the club during the summer transfer window; others, however, believe it’s time to move the controversial forward on after a disappointing second half of the season.
Indeed, since a training ground bust up with Antonio Conte in January, allegedly following an £80million offer from a Chinese Super League club, Costa has scored just three Premier League goals – and is now amid his longest scoring drought in the top flight since moving to Stamford Bridge in summer 2014.
According to the London Evening Standard, Chelsea opened contract talks with the Spain international in February but are now having second thoughts about a new deal, partly because his form is struggling to justify demands for £150k per-week.
Instead, the Blues are now considering selling Costa at the end of the season, as their patience over his underwhelming form continues to run out.
Those supporting Costa in the Tavern, however, reckon the 28-year-old can quickly swing opinions back into his favour if he scores the goals to put Chelsea over the finishing line in this season’s title race.
