Antonio Conte’s arrival at Chelsea has perhaps gone unnoticed amid the ongoing Manchester soap opera involving Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho, though the sheer ferocious nature of the incoming Italian will mean that isn’t a motif carried into the season.
Not concerned about the blockbuster proceedings in the North West, the former Juventus coach is reportedly aiming to scupper Guardiola’s plans for life in England already.
According to Squawka, the Blues boss will continue to fight City for the services of classy central defender Leonardo Bonucci.
While both clubs have been linked, recent reports suggested the Etihad Stadium was a more likely landing spot for the 29-year old Azzurri ace next season.
However, the report claims that Conte, who has enjoyed a strong relationship with the player at both club and country level, will do his best to halt that move and draft the star to Stamford Bridge.
Defensive frailty dogged the West London giants last term, particularly with the iconic John Terry entering a reduced role with the club.
