If the discussion is not about Eden Hazard’s future at Chelsea, it is about Maurizio Sarri’s.
The Italian has come under fire for his methods this season at Stamford Bridge, despite guiding the team to a top-four finish and a Europa League final spot.
Largely in part to his stubbornness in team selection and his refusal to move away from the ‘Sarri-ball’ style of play he likes to adopt, many fans have not been impressed with what he has brought to SW6.
As such, speculation has been rife about his future with the club and one report has suggested that the club have been given permission to speak to one surprise name about the role if he were to leave this summer.
The Times have claimed Chelsea have been offered the chance to speak to Julen Lopetegui about being a potential successor.
The former Spain and Real Madrid manager is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes, a man who has been hugely influential with the west London outfit in recent years.
However, Roman Abramovich must look to avoid the offer by Mendes and look to protect Chelsea as much as he possibly can.
There is a reason as to why Lopetegui is available and it is hardly one that should be shouted from the hilltops.
Infamously, the manager was sacked by Spain just days before last summer’s World Cup because of the discussions he had held with Real Madrid about taking over at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Once he was in charge of the La Liga giants, well, that was just a disaster! Lopetegui lasted just 14 matches in charge before they got fed up with him and decided to hand him his P45.
There is no suggestion that he would be able to lead the Blues any better and it would have to be considered a huge risk bringing him to Stamford Bridge, especially if Sarri can be kept on.
A number of the fans may not like the Italian, but he can at least provide the club with some stability and help them build on things further; something a second season should allow for.
Chelsea fans, what do you think Abramovich should do? Do you think Lopetegui would be a huge risk? Let us know below!
