Chelsea keen on move for African lynchpin as summer rebuild looms

The Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still celebrating their win over Manchester United in the FA Cup. Indeed, while it was a difficult campaign in SW6, our drinkers were delighted to sign it off with a piece of silverware, especially with it coming against sour old Jose Mourinho.

With that in mind, ahead of the summer transfer window, the Blues in our bar are hoping for a big summer spend. After letting the Premier League title slip this season, our west London locals are keen to see a major rebuild at Stamford Bridge and want signings to push them closer to Man City.

So, having said that, comments in the Daily Mail hinting at the club’s chase for one of Europe’s best midfielders have proven rather interesting. According to their report, Chelsea are keen to rival any Arsenal bid for Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri this summer, in an attempt to ramp up their engine room options.

The Ivorian has emerged as one of the best midfielders in Europe over the last season or so and was strongly linked with a move to Barcelona last year, so he certainly would prove a popular addition amongst our drinkers.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Chelsea certainly need midfield additions and Seri would definitely be a good choice. While direct comparisons to N’Golo Kante are unfair, the African star would add energy and industry in equal measure to a stodgy midfield, so they should do their best to beat Arsenal or anyone else.
