In our Loan Watch feature series, the Football Transfer Tavern takes a look at how a selection of players from a particular club are faring whilst they are away from their parent side, and provide a brief update regarding their form.
Here are three loanees from Chelsea’s under-23 side who are currently spending time at other clubs. Izzy Brown, Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah are all playing in the Championship this season, with contrasting fortunes to be had across the last few weeks.
Brown scored the winning goal in their midweek 2-1 home win over Charlton Athletic which had halted a run of five consecutive league defeats.
The 22-year-old has also become the Hatters’ creator-in-chief, with Brown in a league of his own on the club’s assists chart thanks to his tally of seven.
Conor Gallagher may be yet to make a senior appearance for Chelsea – but he is certainly making a name for himself at Charlton Athletic in the second tier.
Trevoh Chalobah had a night to forget as Huddersfield Town drew with Swansea City in midweek, with the on-loan Terriers midfielder sent off for a headbutt in the final minutes of the game.
The 20-year-old has previously featured heavily for the team, starting 13 of Huddersfield’s last 16 league matches, and assisted in their 1-1 draw against Birmingham City at the weekend.
His loan at the John Smith’s Stadium is his second in as many years, after spending last season on loan at Ipswich Town.
While Chalobah’s misdemeanours have put a slight dampener on his progress, it must be pleasing to see all three loanees getting plenty of match action for their respective clubs.
The rise of young talent in Chelsea’s first team this season will surely act as motivation for the current under-23s to make the most of their time in senior football, ahead of their Blues returns in the summer.
All will surely be hoping to catch the eye of Frank Lampard in the hope he is persuaded to promote certain players to the first-team squad, with the likes of Reece James and Mason Mount just a couple of those rewarded after loan spells away.
