With the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern still awaiting their first major summer deal, it’s fair to say there are nervous looks painted across their faces.
Indeed, the Blues in the bar are eager to see Antonio Conte get off the mark in the transfer market, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United already having started their summer business.
So, reports from the Sun have proved rather interesting indeed. They claim Conte is keen on raiding Serie A for Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne. The winger worked with the Stamford Bridge chief during his stint as the Azzurri coach and contact is already believed to have been made.
The Italian star is believed to have been earmarked as a potential replacement for Eden Hazard this summer should he depart, with the Premier League champions said to be ready to double the former’s wage.
Whether or not the 26-year-old would prove to be an adequate replacement for Hazard remains to be seen, though even the slight notion of pairing the two has our drinkers dancing in delirious delight.
With Champions League football back on the agenda in SW6, Conte will certainly need to strengthen his hand over the next few months, so Insigne’s potential arrival certainly has our punters talking.
