According to The Sun, Chelsea are now going to wait until the summer to see if they can sign Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly with the defender going to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
It’s come as a bit of a blow for our resident Blues fans here in the Transfer Tavern who had thought the Naples based player would be the perfect acquisition for Antonio Conte’s preference for three at the back.
They are also worried that the decision to wait could also see another side swoop in and seal a deal for the defender from under their noses.
At the moment the Conte is playing Cesar Azpilicueta out of position as one of the centre backs and many here by the bar feel a more orthodox player in that role would be a good idea.
The Blues have been flying in the league this season and are currently a point clear but it now appears that any edge they were hoping to get in signing Koulibaly in January will have to be put out of mind.
The defender will be joining up with the Senegal national team in early 2017 as they bid to win the competition and because of that, Chelsea are said to be waiting until the summer to make an offer. Something that our landlord thinks makes a great deal of sense.
