The Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t believe what’s going on. Indeed, though many of them think Antonio Conte has been desperate to depart for pretty much a year now, the fact he’s still in charge of the club has left the Blues in the bar rather bemused.
In truth, no one really knows what’s going on. However, reports emerging from Yahoo Sport have proven interesting, as the world awaits Chelsea’s next managerial decision. According to Duncan Castles, the Stamford Bridge giants have been progressing in their talks with Laurent Blanc, who is currently out of work.
The Frenchman led Paris Saint-Germain to three Ligue 1 titles on the spin during his time in charge of the club and has previously taken charge of Bordeaux and the national side. Due to his current status, the former Manchester United defender is reportedly a fairly low cost option, which could make him attractive to the club going forward.
A highly decorated player, Blanc is vastly experienced in the game, playing at some of the biggest clubs in the world. However, despite his multiple league title wins as a manager, the Blues in our bar can’t help but feel his potential appointment would be a little underwhelming.
Blanc did win the league three times on the bounce with PSG, though they are by far the richest team in their league. Having failed to progress in the Champions League despite the riches on offer to him, the Frenchman cerainly has question marks around him at the highest level.
Though he’d be cheap, he’d be underwhelming.
