Chelsea have done what they can to improve their chances of remaining in the top four during the January transfer market.
The club has made some big statements that can be used as a warning for their rivals such as Arsenal and Manchester United, who are equally as desperate to play Champions League football.
The Blues currently occupy a spot in 4th position and intend to stay in that position until the end of the campaign.
With the chance for Maurizio Sarri to earn a place in the Champions League and potentially win a trophy this season, Chelsea fans will be happy with the Italian.
Yet he could have done better in the transfer market, namely if he signed Nicolo Barella.
Barella, (who is valued at £27 million on Transfermarkt) was reportedly an option (via Sky Sports) intensely considered by Maurizio Sarri, before he tried to sign Leandro Paredes instead, a player who recently joined PSG instead.
Now that Chelsea weren’t able to acquire either of their targets, they may be left feeling the anguish of not signing a player as good as the Italian.
Nicolo Barella is only 21-years-old and has already gone some way to proving that he will be a very good footballer.
He has made 23 appearances for Cagliari so far this season, in which he has demonstrated his very best assets.
With a good eye for a pass, the athleticism to get up and down the pitch, helping offensively and defensively, Barella would undoubtedly be a good signing for Chelsea and someone they must try again to sign in the summer.
