Chelsea move for defensive target rocked as Ancelotti edges ever closer

Chelsea fans sat at the bar in the Transfer Tavern have let out a groan this morning after reports from the continent suggested they’ll miss out on another defensive target.

German outlet Bild report that Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have joined the hunt for Hoffenheim’s highly-rated young defender Niklas Sule and are reportedly ready to go toe-to-toe with Chelsea in the transfer market.

Sule has established himself as one of the finest young defender’s in the European game and that’s led to a number of links to top sides on the continent, but the dominant Bundesliga champions look set to wrap up a deal.

It’s reported that Bayern have agreed a five-year deal with the 21-year-old and a £17.5m fee with Hoffenheim, although it’s not stated whether the move would be immediate or in the summer window.

Sule has excelled with Hoffenheim this season, missing just one match of the club’s remarkable unbeaten start to the Bundesliga campaign, which has left the club dreaming about a possible place in European competition next term.

Our landlord believes Sule is the right fit for Bayern and that he’ll do better there than at Chelsea, although he hopes the transfer won’t be until the summer.

Would Sule be making a mistake in joining Bayern Munich over Chelsea? Let us know in the comments below!
