Maurizio Sarri could become the next victim of Roman Abramovich’s managerial axe following a humiliating 6-0 defeat against Manchester City. Indeed, reports from the Guardian suggest the former Napoli coach only has a month to save his job.

The Italian was chosen to replace Antonio Conte who was sacked in the summer after missing out on a place in the Premier League. Expectations were high after Sarri almost guided Napoli to the Serie A title ahead of Juventus during his final season in Italy. Despite a promising start, Chelsea have not progressed under his leadership in recent weeks and the embarrassing defeat to the Citizens highlighted the number of challenges currently facing the Chelsea board.

Defensively, Chelsea were all over the place and N’Golo Kante struggled to influence the game from his new role. His replacement, Jorginho, has struggled to impose himself and his effectiveness in the side wanes week by week. Plenty of changes are necessary to get the Blues challenging for the title again – Abramovich could be forced into yet another managerial change.

One man the Chelsea owner should do everything in his power to appoint is current Atletico Madrid boss – Diego Simeone. The former Argentina international began his coaching career earning his stripes in his home country before being appointed Atletico boss in 2011. Simeone guided the club to the Europa League in his debut season which marked the beginning of plenty of years for success. The 48-year-old would go on the guide Madrid to the La Liga title as well as reaching two Champions League finals. Prising him from Spain could prove difficult, but Simeone could be tempted in a new challenge.

Simeone prefers the traditional 4-4-2 system and his teams are known for their excellent defensive records making him the perfect man to sort out Chelsea’s mess of a back four. He is known for his attention to detail and quick adaptability during games meaning he has all the attributes to be a massive success in England. Having previously worked under tight budgets, the financial might of the London side would give Simeone free reign in the transfer market – something he is yet to experience.

After years of changes – Simeone would finally be the long-term solution Chelsea fans have been craving.
