Chelsea need to end pursuit for superstar defender & be more realistic

Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are getting increasingly frustrated with Antonio Conte’s side this summer following a controversial summer.

The Blues have made impressive signings by capturing the likes of Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko but the losses of Nemanja Matic and a wealth of other players has left the defending Premier League champions significantly lacking squad depth.

A shock 3-2 defeat to relegation favourites Burnley on the opening weekend of the new season has raised the pressure on Conte’s side, especially as red cards in that game for Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas have left the Blues with plenty of issues ahead of this weekend’s trip to face Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

Conte has been very public with his desire to capture more players before the transfer window slams shut at the end of August but the Blues’ approach to the window continues to be questionable, as shown by their reluctance to accept a deal for Juventus ace Alex Sandro is extremely unlikely.

Chelsea have already seen two huge bids for the South American full-back rejected by last season’s Champions League runners-up and are continuing to eye a move, despite the fact that Juventus will pounce on the desperation of the West London side.

It’s no secret that Chelsea desperately need signings and have plenty of money to spend, which means clubs like Juventus will hold them to ransom in the transfer market- so Conte’s side needs to change their approach and be more realistic.

Any club approached by Chelsea at this stage would likely hold out for a higher fee but there’s certainly players more likely to move to the club than Sandro, who could end up costing as much as Alvaro Morata.
