Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t quite believe what a mess their side is in, with things going downhill further following last weekend’s defeat.
The loss to Burnley on the opening weekend has raised the pressure on the defending champions ahead of this weekend’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium, with red cards to Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas giving Antonio Conte further issues to worry about.
Whilst a lot of the talk revolves around Chelsea’s lack of squad depth, the issue that needs resolving immediately is the situation concerning Diego Costa- as the Spanish striker is at loggerheads with the club after being told by Conte he’s not wanted.
Chelsea are desperate to offload, and Conte is equally desperate to leave, but nothing has been forthcoming as of yet. Amidst it all, Costa’s agent has fired shots at the club and Chelsea have fined the Spaniard for not showing up to training. Overall, it’s a complete mess.
All of this will not be helping Chelsea’s situation at all and the Blues need to quiet down, sort things out and move on. It may mean that they don’t quite get the sum of money they want for the former Atletico Madrid man but that’s better than the situation tearing the club apart.
The longer this rumbles on, the more problems it creates behind the scenes and Chelsea are not in a position where they can afford to see that happen.
