Chelsea find themselves stuck with a potential personnel dilemma right now.

After Zinedine Zidane returned to Real Madrid, it’s been reported by the Evening Standard that he wants both N’Golo Kante AND Eden Hazard from the London side. As every fan outside of the Spanish capital will surely know by now, Los Blancos usually get what they want. A scary prospect indeed.

Clearly, the Blues would be suicidal to sell both, so need a decision to make on whom to cling onto.

Considering the situation, it would be wiser for Stamford Bridge decision makers to try to hold onto Kante right now. Eden Hazard’s been their beacon of hope in the attack, scoring 13 goals so far in the Premier League and assisting 11 as well but there is an argument to be made that he's more expendable than his World Cup-winning teammate. On the attacking front, the Belgian’s the undisputed king, however, Kante is the heart which keeps on pumping energy into the side.

Even in what’s been an underwhelming season for the Frenchman, in which he’s been forced to drift into an uncomfortable role, Kante’s been impressive for Chelsea. Not only has he scored three 3 and assisted 4, his personal best ever, but he’s also successfully pulled the strings in Chelsea’s midfield and persistently helped defensively.

Be it maintaining a 55% tackling success, recovering the ball 204 times or making 37 interceptions in 29 appearances (stats via Premier League) the relentless Kante has inspired all around him with his work-rate and commitment level, even under Maurizio Sarri’s seemingly flawed stewardship.

Hazard's departure seems inevitable, as he's adamant at winning the Champions League with Real Madrid after failing to do it at Chelsea. With that in mind, the Blues can’t do much to stop him but need to hold onto Kante or risk losing the engine who has driven them forward.
