Chelsea offer stalwart new deal amid major European and Chinese interest

mikel44

It’s looking like an end of an era for Chelsea. Perhaps no report has been so indicative of this than one from AllNigerianSoccer that claims John Obi Mikel could well leave the club.

The stoic midfielder has become somewhat of a cult hero for the Blues fans that have frequented the Transfer Tavern for much of the last decade and emerged as a key player when they were at their lowest ebb this season.

That’s a fact that has not gone unnoticed on the continent, with Spanish giants Valencia thought to be weighing up a move for the 29-year old.

Yes, you’re reading that correct, John Obi Mikel is still just 29.

However, they do also state that the Stamford Bridge outfit have tabled a contract extension in a bid to get the Super Eagles international to stay.

Clubs in China are also believed to be plotting a move, with his current deal due to expire at the end of next season.

Behind legendary skipper John Terry, Mikel is the second longest serving player currently plying his trade in West London and has been near enough a mainstay throughout their success.

Has Mikel impressed you in just how good he’s been this season?
