It was another defeat against a top-six side for Chelsea over the weekend after they fell to a 2-1 loss to Manchester City.
The Blues are yet to beat any of the sides who finished in the top six last season who they have come up against this term, falling short against Manchester United and Liverpool in multiple competitions.
Can Frank Lampard steer Chelsea to a top-four finish?
Despite this, former Red Devil Owen Hargreaves is still tipping Frank Lampard’s side to finish in the Champions League places come May.
“I thought Chelsea were terrific first half [against Manchester City], second half they just lost that impetus going forward,” Hargreaves told Premier League productions (via Daily Express).
“But credit Frank Lampard, I thought they came here, came to play, kept the ball and they posed a threat. I think Pep Guardiola’s knows today was a tough game against a really good side.
“Watching Chelsea up close there, they’re going to be a top four team, there’s no question. They were really, really good.”
Sitting seven points ahead of Wolves in fourth place and eight above Arsenal, Hargreaves’ claim has foundation.
The Blues have got to this position in convincing style, brushing aside the likes of Wolves, Southampton and Burnley by scoring four goals or more.
On that evidence, they look like they have the firepower to retain their spot in the top four.
In front of goal, Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic have been excellent, with the duo combining to amass a total of 15 goals in the league.
If they can maintain the form they are in while the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United continue to drop points, then Champions League football at the Bridge next season looks nailed on.
