Chelsea, within the past decade and a half or so anyway, have never been noted for their tendency to bring through burgeoning talent and nurture them into top stars.
In fact, it’s been quite the opposite and the Blues have come under intense criticism for their reluctance to blood the youngsters.
However, the punters in tonight who call Stamford Bridge home have actually reacted with delight to their clubs latest stand on youth talent.
As highly rated as Dominic Solanke is in West London, our locals (and much of the world far beyond we imagine) baulked at recent reports suggesting the young forward was demanding a stunning £50,000 per week from the club.
Having only made one appearance from the bench, it seemed a little steep.
Now, according to the Times, those behind the scenes at the Bridge are reportedly ready to play hard ball with the England under-21 star and leave him in exile until he drops his demands.
They are understood to be prepared to dump him in the development squads and even block the chance for the 18-year old to go out on loan.
Currently farmed out to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, the England under-21 starlet could be at risk of ruining the formative years of his footballing career by demanding such a huge wage already.
London rivals Arsenal have been linked with making a swoop for a hugely talented young forward with just a year on his deal left to go.
Should Solanke be told to pack his bags? He surely can’t think he’s worth £50,000 per week?!
