Though the signing of Ross Barkley late last week certainly cheered many of the Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern up, their performance against Norwich City in the FA Cup had many of the Blues in our bar almost falling asleep.
The Premier League champions’ trip across to Carrow Road did little to excite pretty much anyone, with many of our west London locals eager for some news on the transfer front to forget their dull FA Cup showing. Well, while reports from the Daily Mail over the weekend don’t exactly hint at an incoming, they do shed some light on the state of a potential incoming.
They claim those behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge have assured Ruben Loftus-Cheek that he has a future in SW6, despite the signing of Barkley. Indeed, the England international is understood to have been told his parent club would sign the former Everton man, though it wouldn’t have an impact on his future.
Currently on loan at Crystal Palace, Loftus-Cheek has finally looked as if he is able to fulfil his real potential, even impressing during his debut with England back in November. With that in mind, the club’s apparent message to him has gone down a storm in our bar.
This is certainly promising to see. Loftus-Cheek and Barkley could be a fearsome duo for both club and country in the years to come and the fact Chelsea are thought to have assured the former he has a future shows some smart thinking in west London when it comes to young talents for once.
