News has made it’s way into the Football Transfer Tavern today that has stunned a group of Chelsea fans over by the dartboard, one of the top players at Stamford Bridge has decided he’s had enough and wants out.
Chelsea’s pantomime villain of a striker, Diego Costa, has told the club that he wants to leave and could be set to return to his former club, Atheltico Madrid, with a whopping £40m offer having already been lodged by Diego Simeone, according to reports in the Daily Star.
According to Daily Star sources, those close to Costa had always maintained he was happy in London, but has now had a change of heart and has demanded a move.
It is believed that the Spanish international felt that he was given a hard time by Premier League referees, and in November the Evening Standard reported that, former Premier League official, Mark Halsey, agreed with him.
The 27-year-old has certainly divided opinion in his 78 appearances for Chelsea but scored 36 goals along the way, a record that is hard to argue with.
However, our ever knowledgeable Landlord was quick to point out that, Costa may not be such a loss as it was reported by Sky Sports yesterday that Belgium striker, Michy Batshuayi, had passed his Chelsea medical and a deal looked all but done.
Chelsea fans, what do you think? Will you miss having Diego Costa at your club or is the £40m offer from his former club enough to soften the blow? Let us know in the comments below…
