Just when the chips were down for Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, his silver lining came in Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
While it’s quite ironic that the Italian had to break his stubbornness in trusting youngsters, the 23-year-old was just too good to ignore. Indeed, Loftus-Cheek sparked their end of season fightback, resulting in a positive finish to a topsy-turvy campaign.
Obviously, they do have an important final ahead, but Sarri and the club must already be looking forward to next season. However, in order to keep Loftus-Cheek with his side for the long-term, the Italian needs to fulfil certain conditions. The 23-year-old reportedly (as per the Sun) wants guaranteed regular playing-time to commit his long-term future at Chelsea and considering his emphatic development, that should definitely be granted to him.
The 6’3 midfielder is among the best to have come out of their academy, being quite the dynamic figure to help them dominate games. Despite only having made limited starts this campaign, he’s created some majestic moments with some stunning performances in recent months. Indeed, Loftus-Cheek’s scored 4 goals and assisted 3 in an inspired UEFA Europa League campaign.
Even in the Premier League, he’s scored 6 goals, mostly coming from the six games he’s started. An excellent centre-midfielder who adds power as well as swagger to their game, Loftus-Cheek is the complete package Sarri’s craved for since his arrival.
He needs to utilize the 23-year-old’s talent properly from now on, shaping his midfield according to his strengths. With N’Golo Kante and Jorginho doing the defensive duties, Loftus-Cheek should be given free rein to trouble defences and fill that goal-scoring void at Chelsea.
