The Chelsea fans who’ve frequented the Transfer Tavern for a number of years have reacted with disgust at the John Terry saga.
While the Blues bastion looks destined to leave Stamford Bridge after 18 years with the club, it doesn’t look like the fitting send off their stoic skipper deserves after so many years of loyal service.
Yesterday, it was claimed the former England captain was nearing a lucrative move to China upon the expiration of his deal.
Happy families then. Who wouldn’t want £12m per season?
However, reports from the Daily Mail suggest the 35-year old does not want to leave his beloved boyhood charges. It seems he is being forced out.
‘I still want to play for a couple more years, hopefully that’s at Chelsea,’ he told Brondby TV.
‘I’m a Chelsea player and that has been my club since the age of 14. I love Chelsea.’
For a player who has made 703 appearances for the club, it may not end up being the most dignified of exits.
It seems very likely he will never play for the Blues again after being sent off at Sunderland last week and no option of extending his deal on the table.
As well as China, Terry has been touted as a potential target for MLS clubs, with former England teammates Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Joe Cole all having made moves Stateside.
Does Terry deserve another season at the Bridge?
