When Tiemoue Bakayoko was putting in strong performances during a particularly bright phase for AC Milan, many mocked Maurizio Sarri for sending him on loan.
Oh, how times change.
Indeed, as Chelsea themselves were in a precarious position at the time, the blame fell on Sarri for loaning what could’ve been an important squad player. Could being the operative word, here.
However, fast-forward a couple of months later and the Blues fans are probably glad he was let go. Recently, Bakayoko’s been in the headlines for the all wrong reasons, after appearing to flip off at coach Genaro Gattuso against Bologna on Monday.
It must be said that the French international has denied it but it’s an ugly episode all the same.
As you’ll know by now, after being benched, the former Monaco man seemingly defied his coach’s orders to come on and ended up rebelliously talking down to him.
This poor attitude’s been the reason for the Frenchman’s downfall ever since moving on from Monaco in the first place. Bakayoko failed to impress for Chelsea last season after his £40m switch to Stamford Bridge, turning in one bad performance after another. While he did improve at the San Siro, a drop of form seems to have angered him.
Frankly, the fact is that the Frenchman isn’t consistent or clever enough to thrive on the big stage.
The 24-year-old’s made 24 league appearances for Milan but invited trouble numerous times by giving away possession, making untimely fouls and failing to mark onrushing midfielders. Rather than improving his form, his shocking attitude shows a player who’ll never make it big time.
While Chelsea might be entangled in a transfer ban, they need to immediately sell Bakayoko after this season. Maurizio Sarri cannot risk another Kepa-like mini-mutiny by encouraging a player with an abysmal attitude and needs to keep him miles away from his blooming Chelsea side.
Chelsea fans, would you be disappointed with Bakayoko’s potential departure next season? Join the discussion by commenting below…
