For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, there’s a real hope that the international break came at the right time.
Prior to it, the Blues had been pulled apart by Manchester City at home, so our west London locals are hopeful that Antonio Conte can sort things out on the training pitch.
So, comments from Chelsea-based reported Simon Francis on Twitter have gone down well amongst the Blues in our bar. He’s revealed on social media that England international Danny Drinkwater is closing in on a return to full fitness ahead of the champions’ trip to Crystal Palace next weekend.

It’s been a frustrating start for the midfielder since his move to Stamford Bridge on Deadline Day after a calf problem curtailed the early stages of his Chelsea career. However, the 27-year-old could reportedly be in contention for the game at Selhurst Park, affording Conte options in central midfield.
Chelsea looked tired against City, with even N’Golo Kante feeling the effects of their trip to Atletico Madrid a few days before. With that in mind, having Drinkwater available will be a massive boost for the champions.
