Conte handed €35m Chelsea blow

There was so much optimism amongst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern during the opening stages of the season.

Antonio Conte had gone unbeaten during his first four games and sections of support propping up the bar had even tipped the Blues for a title challenge.

However, things have largely come crashing down ever since for the West London giants.

Now, following reports from Rome-based daily Il Messaaggerothose at Stamford Bridge could be in line for another blow.

They claim Dutch international Stefan de Vrij is ready to pen a new five-year deal with Lazio, one that reportedly contains a €35m release clause in the Italian capital.

The Dutchman is previously reported to have been a target for the former Juventus coach, who clearly needs to strengthen up his defence.

After impressing for both the Oranje national side under Louis van Gaal, the 24-year-old is believed to remain of interest to Conte.

While the player is said to be flattered at Chelsea’ interest, he is understood to remain fully focused in the Italian capital.
