The Chelsea fans still celebrating last season in the Transfer Tavern are eager to see Antonio Conte take his overhaul of the club into its second phase this summer, by actually bringing in some new players.
It’s been a slow few months on the transfer front thus far for the Blues in the bar, though strong links with likes of Antonio Rudiger and Alex Sandro have at least given our west London locals something to discuss.
Indeed, it seems as if Conte’s continued rebuild at Stamford Bridge is not merely limited to players who may potentially be incoming. That’s because, according to the Sun, the Italian may spring somewhat of a surprise when it comes to naming a new captain this summer.
With Blues bastion John Terry now dear departed, many of the punters propping up our bar were ready to assume that Gary Cahill would be handed the armband on a permanent basis. Having stepped in for big JT last year, the England international seemed like a natural candidate.
However, Conte is believed to be in ‘love’ with Luiz’s growing leadership abilities, as well as his vocal effect during big matches on the rest of his teammates. Amazingly for the Chelsea fans, the Brazilian has come on leaps and bounds since his rather immature first few years associated with the club.
Cesar Azpilicueta is another understood to be under consideration, though Luiz has the vote of many in the Tavern.
