Conte lines up big raid as Costa’s time at Chelsea winds down

Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left biting their nails and eagerly awaiting the close of the January transfer window, following the saga concerning star striker Diego Costa.

The Spaniard’s bust-up with Antonio Conte has left his future at Stamford Bridge under a huge amount of scrutiny and while it now looks like he will stay in the Premier League until the end of the season as least, it’s a concerning situation for Blues supporters.

Conte seems to be prepared for any potential departure though as the Daily Telegraph claim the Italian boss has identified Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata as the ideal long-term successor for the former Atletico Madrid striker.

Morata returned to the Spanish capital last summer, after Zinedine Zidane’s side exercised a buy-back clause to snatch him back off Juventus, but the 24-year-old has only started six La Liga games since his return to Spain.

Our landlord believes Morata would be a decent replacement for Costa but feels the situation could change again by the end of the season.

Would Morata be a decent signing for Chelsea? Let us know in the comments below!
