David Luiz’s return to Chelsea has been discussed often and loudly in the Transfer Tavern, with the Blues propping up the bar still in shock about the Deadline Day deal.
Such is the nature of his trademark style of defending, the position in which Antonio Conte plays the Brazilian has been the subject of debate amongst our West London locals.
Naturally a centre-back, the 29-year-old has sometimes been deployed as a central midfielder for both Paris Saint-Germain and the Selecao.
With Kurt Zouma still out injured and John Terry ageing, Luiz looks set to resume his place in the backline, after leaving in 2014.
Sold under Jose Mourinho’s watch, he helped the club win the FA Cup, Europa League and the Champions League during his initial stint at Stamford Bridge.
“I think David Luiz is a centre-back, he’s played a lot of games in that position,” said the Italian.
“I know sometimes he’s played as a central midfielder but in my mind the idea is to utilise him in the right position which, for me, is centre-back.
”He’s played with Chelsea previously and he will bring a good personality.”
