You’d think the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern would be reflecting on the season just gone, though many of them are already focusing on the next campaign under Antonio Conte.
Many of the Blues in the bar are eager to see the popular Italian coach continue his fine work at Stamford Bridge and believe some astute additions on the transfer front will be key in keeping them competitive amid a much busier schedule.
With that in mind, reports from the Daily Mail have certainly proved interesting. They claim the Premier League champions are ‘hopeful’ of sealing a deal for Monaco star Tiemoue Bakayoko, ahead of reported interest from the likes of Manchester United.
The Frenchman has emerged as one of the most exciting and dynamic central midfielders this season, while helping his side to the Ligue 1 title. Chelsea are understood to be continuing discussions this week of a potential £43m move – with Conte himself said to be heading for personal talks with him.
In return, the French champions may be sent Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi, after reportedly asking for him. The former Marseille man has struggled to impose himself on first-team proceedings in west London, despite his popularity here in the Tavern.
While they’d hate to see the Belgian leave already, the idea of landing a player like Bakayoko really is helping soften that potential blow.
