The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are convinced that Antonio Conte needs more backing in the market if they are going to avoid another nightmare title defence.
Following their loss to bitter rivals Arsenal at Wembley in the Community Shield, the Blues in the bar have been locked in discussion as they cite potential arrivals to help Conte’s cause, heading into his second campaign at Stamford Bridge.
So, reports from the Sun have certainly proven rather interesting. They claim the west London giants are keen on a move for England international Danny Rose, who players for arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur, of course.
One of the best full-backs in the league, the 27-year-old has recently been touted as a potential target for Manchester United of late and can comfortably fill the role of a wing-back.
Conte is understood to have finally given up on Brazil international Alex Sandro and reportedly wants the club to bid for Rose, who would be a significant upgrade on Marcos Alonso in the eyes of many here propping up our bar.
A £40m offer is said to be ‘likely’ and Chelsea are thought to know they could double his reported £65k-p/w ages with the Italian coach believed to want top brass in SW6 to hurry their recruitment drive along.
As you can imagine, the idea of signing a player as good as Rose while potentially weakening an old enemy, has gone down very well amongst the Blues in this bar.
Rose would be a truly wonderful signing for Chelsea. Indeed, he’d add so much in the way of wing-back expertise that it’d be easy to the Blues recreate some of their solid showings that won them the league last term.
Though Alonso did well last season, Rose would be a huge upgrade, particularly in the Champions League.
