Contract report will surely endear Abramovich to Chelsea fans even more

Antonio Conte has quickly established himself as one of the most popular Chelsea managers (and there’s been a few) in years since arriving in England.

Thanks to his title-winning tactical tinkerings and animated touchline antics, the Italian is a popular figure amongst the Blues in the bar of the Transfer Tavern, who hope he’s in charge for many more years to come.

Still, links with a move away for the 47-year-old refuse to go away. Serie A giants Inter Milan have been touted as a potential exit route this summer, should the former Juventus and Italy coach wish to return to his homeland.

So, reports from Italian outlet TMW have gone down a storm in the Tavern today. They claim that, while the Nerazzurri reportedly remain interested, Roman Abramovich is prepared to pay top dollar to keep his man in west London.

Indeed, it’s believed the Russian tycoon is prepared to offer the 47-year-old a huge €12m per annum over the course of a four-year-deal in order to ward off any interest from the San Siro.

That roughly equates to just over £10m per season, which would see Conte rake in a cool £40m should he sign and stay the duration of that reported deal.

Not bad work if you can get it.
