Well, not quite Toon fans.
Anyway, each day of this holiday season as we count down to the final days of Christmas I shall assess which transfer could change the season of each of the top twelve clubs in the Premier League.
Starting today with, of course, top of the league, Manchester United.
Rumours have begun circulating today that hotshot Javier Hernandez may be Madrid bound in January despite only joining the club in the summer. Jose Mourinho has apparently urged club officials to increase their efforts to land the Mexican international.
This could leave United with a bit of a pickle come January, who with the long standing injury problems of Michael Owen, would only have Berbatov and Rooney to rely on to hit the net at Old Trafford.
A short term solution may be possible with Sir Alex Ferguson looking to the loan market in January to aid his two strikers, however, I would find it hard to believe that Hernandez would be ready to quit Old Trafford on such a whim.
That said, when Real Madrid come knocking at the door it may be hard to say no. A bid in excess of £15million could turn heads in Manchester as the Salford outfit only secured their £8million transfer for the 22-year-old in the summer.
Such an audacious bid could see Sir Alex turn his attention back to Anderlecht starlet Romelu Lukaku, who despite only being the tender age of 17, has won plaudits worldwide for his outstanding performances for the Belgian champions. 23 goals in 51 games is a fantastic record for even the most seasoned of professionals and such an phenomenal total at the Belgian’s age has caught the eyes of both Chelsea and United.
Anderlecht have put a hefty price on the Belgian’s head though and a minimum of £16.75million would be needed to prize the striker away from the club. Oh I can’t wait for January.
