Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are cursing Real Madrid this evening, amid news the Spanish giants are targeting their star attacker Eden Hazard.
The Belgium international announced his return to title-winning form with a stunning solo goal against Arsenal earlier this month, following a horrendous 2015/16 campaign that saw him become a shadow of his former self.
Chelsea are now well on course to claim a fifth Premier League title and the winger-forward will once again be the leading contender for the PFA Player of the Year award after winning the honour in 2015.
However, reports from Spanish publication Diario Gol suggest that could be Hazard’s last hurrah at Stamford Bridge, with Real Madrid eyeing the 26-year-old seemingly as their next ‘Galactico’ signing.
It’s claimed Real president Florentino Perez is willing to table a summer bid for the former Lille man and suggested a club official is already working behind the scenes to try and agree a deal with the west Londoners.
Whether Chelsea would accept such an offer remains to be seen – Hazard is, after all, their talismanic entity and his contract isn’t due to expire until 2020.
But countless players have been unable to resist the allure of the Bernabeu down the years and if Chelsea claim this season’s Premier League title as expected, Hazard may feel he’s won all he can with the Blues.
