Chelsea fans will be glad to see the managerial situation at Stamford Bridge finally resolved.
After weeks of speculation, Antonio Conte was relieved of his duties earlier in the week after a dismal season. Despite lifting the FA Cup, the Blues missed out on Champions League football after finishing fifth in the Premier League. Roman Abramovich has landed Maurizio Sarri as his replacement, much to the excitement of pretty much everyone.
The Italian has a massive task on his hands to return Chelsea to the top of the Premier League. He will be boosted by the signing of Jorginho but could be without talisman N’Golo Kante next season. The former Leicester man has been linked heavily with both Barcelona and Paris St Germain.
If he leaves, Sarri will need to identify a replacement quickly. To do so, he should return to Napoli and sign Amadou Diawara. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the Guinean found playing time hard to come by due to the form of Jorginho. At Chelsea, they would be an excellent two-man midfield pivot.
His best form came at Bologna where he was a crucial player back in 2016. He made 34 Serie A appearances and attracted interest from all over Europe before signing for Napoli. Diawara averaged an incredible 2.2 tackles, and 2.7 interceptions (WhoScored) – only Kante boasted better stats in the entire Chelsea squad.
At just 20-years-old, his best years are still ahead of him. By signing Diawara, Chelsea could complete their midfield for the next decade.
