Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have started the week with a two-day hangover, having spent the best part of the weekend celebrating their 4-2 FA Cup semi-final victory over Tottenham.
The win at Wembley kept the Blues hopes of a domestic double alive this season but Antonio Conte is already preparing for the club’s exploits in the summer transfer window, as they prepare for a return to the Champions League.
Despite boasting an impressive defence this season, Chelsea’s Italian boss is keen to improve the depth within the Blues squad, especially with John Terry ending his long-term association with the club this summer, and a significant boost has been handed to them.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has opened the door for Chelsea to sign Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, as he told Gazzetta Dello Sport that the Naples outfit would cope without their star Senegalese centre-half.
“If there’s a new offer from Chelsea for Koulibaly? It will depend on the player’s will, because if he doesn’t want to stay then he can leave.”
However, Chelsea would have to pay a monstrous sum to capture the Serie A star, as our landlord reminded the punters that Napoli demanded £60m for the defender last summer.
