Everton full back set to spark bidding war

The Football Transfer Tavern has burst into life with the news that Everton left back Leighton Baines could be set to spark a bidding war between a host of clubs according to the Independent.

The paper claims that the England International who has long been a target of Manchester United has now added Chelsea and mega wealthy Paris Saint Germain to his list of admirers. The 28-yea- old does have two years left to run on his current deal at the club yet David Moyes and Everton are used to selling their best players and rebuilding thereafter.

The full back has become one of the best in Europe and  is seen as a successor to Ashley Cole by Chelsea meaning Manchester United could be left ruing the decision not to pay the £15 million asking price for him last summer.

The player himself is happy at Everton and committed to securing a top four position with the club in what he regards to be the best league in the world, yet the chance to challenge for titles and regularly play Champions League football is something the player would find hard to resist.

Our landlord points out that whilst it is thought that Moyes may block a move this January, the player would be allowed to leave in the summer should the right offer for both Baines and the club come along.

Do you think Baines is one of the best around? Vote in our polls below.
