In news that has rocked both us in the Football Transfer Tavern and got Real Madrid fans believing that Santa listened to their Christmas wish, it has been claimed by The Mirror that Radamel Falcao to Los Blancos is a done deal.
Of course the Colombian is the hottest property in football at the moment and both Chelsea and Manchester City had thought themselves to be in with a very decent chance of landing the forward. Real Madrid had long been linked with the player but due to the pact of non aggression between Madrid’s first and second clubs, it was felt Falcao would be moving to England.
That claim has been blown out of the water with the Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo himself sensationally claiming on Spanish TV that: “Falcao has had something signed with Real Madrid for some time.”
Just what this ‘something’ is exactly remains to be seen and whilst Chelsea fans may be hoping it was the napkin Florentino Perez was seen handing Falcao at a recent Charity gala, our punters feel it is probably likely to be something a little more substantial.
A move across the capital for the striker would of course be much easier than across Europe and with the player claiming to love Spain, the idea of not even having to move house could prove very appealing – well unless the Atleti fans know where he lives of course!
As our landlord points out, all is not lost for Chelsea who have just signed Demba Ba from Newcastle and could also move for Napoli forward Edinson Cavani at the end of the season if they do eventually lose out on long-term target Falcao.
