The Chelsea fans are feeling apprehensive in the Transfer Tavern ahead of one of their most important fixtures of the season so far.
Plenty of the resident Pensioners in the tavern were expecting their club to be in with a shout of retaining the Premier League trophy when they moved towards the business of the season, but things haven’t exactly gone to plan so far. With 11 fixtures left to play, Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League are in jeopardy, but a win over Manchester United at Old Trafford would give them a huge boost in their bid to finish inside the top-four this season.
A victory will take Chelsea level on points with their opponents for today whilst a defeat could leave them outside of the top-four if Tottenham Hotspur record victory over Crystal Palace in the early kick-off today.
The magnitude of the fixture is clearly huge, and all of Antonio Conte’s players will need to be on top form today to ensure they can clinch a vital victory, especially Victor Moses (valued at £16.2 million by Transfermarkt) who will have a tough job at right-wing-back.
In the system that Chelsea play the importance of full-backs cannot be expressed highly enough, and the fact Moses will presumably be tasked with marking one of Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford merely places extra pressure on the shoulders of the Nigerian international.
The crowd at Old Trafford thrive off the pace, flair and creativity that the aforementioned players bring to the table for United, but they will be silenced if Moses can prevent them from finding space and time to exploit Chelsea on the left-hand side of the pitch.
During his career at Chelsea, Moses has shown that he is quick, strong, and intelligent with his positioning at wing-back, as well as a reliable distributor of the ball, but he must prove this once again today if The Blues wish to collect a vital three-points in their race for Champions League qualification this season.
