The Chelsea fans have been feeling downbeat in the Transfer Tavern of late due to their side’s miserable form in the Premier League.
Antonio Conte is crying out for a morale-boosting victory against Crystal Palace this evening ahead of his side’s daunting looking trip to face Barcelona at the Nou Camp next week. Chelsea will certainly have one eye on their Champions League clash, but if they want to compete in Europe’s elite club competition once again next season they will need to resurrect their stuttering Premier League form – starting with a victory over relegation-threatened Crystal Palace this evening.
Considering Chelsea have lost 4 out of their last 5 Premier League fixtures, it’s no surprise that The Blues faithful propping up our bar are far from confident of securing a result today. Conte will certainly need to see an improvement in his side’s attacking performance today, as their threat was completely nullified against Manchester City last time out.
Even Chelsea’s most consistently potent attacking player, namely Eden Hazard hardly managed to produce any meaningful moment of quality to note against City, although is must be considered that his stale performance arrived as a consequence of Conte’s negative tactics. Hazard will undoubtedly need to improve today, but his performance may not be the most crucial individual contribution to Chelsea’s result today.
Indeed, Chelsea’s Brazilian winger Willian (valued at £28.8 million by Transfermarkt) could be the man to resurrect Chelsea’s season this evening with another inspired performance in attacking midfield. The Blues have desperately struggled from back to front in recent weeks, but Willian’s performances have been a shining light amongst a multitude of sub-standard displays from his teammates.
If Chelsea want to claim all three points against Palace today and simultaneously kick-start their bid to finish inside the top-four, they will need Willian to replicate his positive performances of late by bringing all of his creative talents to the table.
