Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to seeing their side getting back up to speed this weekend in the Premier League.
The men from Stamford Bridge have had an okay start to the season with them recovering from their loss to Burnley on the opening day by beating Spurs and Everton.
For sure, then, they’ll be looking to keep the winning vibe up this weekend but the Diego Costa situation is still hanging over them with his future still hugely up in the air.
Indeed, many were thinking he was going to go to Atletico Madrid but he didn’t in the summer and is now being expected back at Cobham for Chelsea training – something he has been dodging out in Brazil.
For some, then, this situation is an issue all caused by the striker but, speaking to Sky Sports’ PL Daily show earlier today, Joleon Lescott has said that the club has to take some of the blame too.
Indeed, the former Everton defender said:
“I don’t think Diego is the sole problem there.
“I think it’s a problem that has come from player and club and I’m sure he would have liked it to be resolved in the transfer window but due to the fact the club he wanted to go to has a transfer ban, I’m sure that’s delayed the process.”
For Lescott, then, the blame should be shared as we wait for the situation to finally get resolved.
A pretty diplomatic response from Lescott, there, but you can see where he is coming from with Costa getting scapegoated a fair bit here.
Certainly, Chelsea could have acted better in this situation, too, and now it just remains to be seen if and when this issue is going to get sorted out once and for all.
