‘Gary better start’ – Chelsea fans on Twitter react to club’s team news update

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Thibaut Courtois and Andreas Christensen will need to be assessed before Sunday’s London derby against top-four rivals, Tottenham. Conte’s injury update was tweeted by the club, with a link to the Chelsea website for more details.

Tottenham are chasing a first win at Stamford Bridge in 28 years on Sunday. The last time the Lilywhites travelled to the Blues and came away with all three points was 10th February 1990 and Chelsea will be hoping that can be extended to 29 years as they look to chase down 4th placed Tottenham in the hope of ending the season in a Champions League place. Chelsea are five points off of Spurs at the moment and defeat for Conte would effectively guarantee Spurs a spot in the top four at the Blues expense.

Chelsea will be looking to do the double over Spurs this season after beating the Lilywhites 2-1 at Wembley earlier in the season, courtesy of a Marcos Alonso brace. A lot has changed since that game in August though, as Chelsea don’t look like the dominant force that they were in 2017. The Blues have been knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona and now face a tough run-in as they look to secure Champions League football for next season. Sunday’s clash could make or break for the Stamford Bridge faithful and having a fit squad will be key.
