German outfit finally admit defeat in transfer tussle with Chelsea

Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing who their club should target to replace John Terry in the summer, should the Blues skipper retire as expected.

But our landlord’s quickly pointed out that the west London club have two fantastic potential successors to Chelsea’s ‘Captain, Leader, Legend’ on their books already – powerful centre-half Kurt Zouma and the prodigious Andreas Christensen.

The latter has spent the last two seasons on loan at Borussa Monchengladbach and impressed so much that director Max Erbel has made no secret of the Bundesliga club’s desire to sign the Danish defender permanently.

Considering Chelsea’s questionable record of nurturing young talent throughout the Roman Abramovich era, Blues punters in the Tavern have long been concerned that Christensen may well push for the move to guarantee first-team football.

But in a huge boost for the Premier League leaders, Gladbach appear to have finally admitted defeat in their pursuit of the 20-year-old defender, with Erbel stating “he must go back to Chelsea” whilst discussing the fate of Christensen and midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, who will move to Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Christensen has made over 70 appearances for Gladbach, in the process earning a reputation as one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe.
