Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are slightly concerned about the lack of options available to Antonio Conte heading into the club’s title defence.
Having struggled so much to defend their last crown, the Blues in the bar are fearful of the club repeating the same mistakes that saw them fail so badly under Jose Mourinho, so reports from the Daily Mirror have at least proved rather promising.
They claim the west London giants have been given fresh hope in their attempts to land Inter Milan star Antonio Candreva this summer. Indeed, the Italian international has been touted as a potential target for Conte, who worked with the player when he was in charge of the Azzurri.
Versatile up the right-hand side of the pitch, the 30-year-old would be a popular addition amongst the Blues in our bar and the Serie A giants are believed to be eyeing up a replacement. Indeed, the Nerazzurri are thought to have turned their attentions to Lazio star Keita Balde, reportedly hoping to beat Juventus to that signing.
As a result, they would apparently be open to selling the £23m-rated man, with Conte said to have reignited his interest in the former Juve man.
Candreva would a very strong addition to Chelsea’s cause. Able to operate up and down the right side of the pitch, he’d offer Victor Moses some strong competition as a right-wing back, one area of the squad that needs strengthening ahead of a busier schedule next season.
Known to Conte, the Italy star makes sense for the Blues.
