Granovskaia reportedly busy as Chelsea wait for transfer green light

Since beating Tottenham Hotspur, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been dancing on the pool tables.

Still, it’s important for the Blues in the bar not to get too carried away right now and many of our west London locals remain desperate to see Antonio Conte bring in some players this summer.

So, reports from the Daily Telegraph have gone down extremely well today.

They claim Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has stepped up attempts to add to the squad as the transfer window draws to a close, though they are reportedly prepared to play a waiting game with Southampton over Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutch defender has been touted as a Blues target this summer and, while Granovskaia is understood to have scheduled a host of meetings over targets, will apparently wait for Southampton to indicate they’re willing to sell.

So far, those on the south coast have constantly stated they will not sell their captain, amid suggestions Liverpool are keen on the Oranje star.

One of the best defenders in the league, our resident Chelsea fans hope Southampton relent.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Do Chelsea really need another defender?

Antonio Rudiger may not be John Terry, though Conte seems well-stocked in that area, so perhaps focusing on other aspects of the squad would be better for him.

Still, any team would be improved with Van Dijk in their ranks.
