Eden Hazard’s long-term future at Chelsea remains unclear despite remaining at the club throughout the January window.
The talismanic winger has just 18 months remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and both Maurizio Sarri and the player himself have shed any light on his future. Real Madrid are long-term admirers of the Belgium international and could be looking for a marquee signing in the summer following a dismal league campaign. According to reports in the Mirror, Madrid are willing to part with £100m to get their man.
There will be further concern amongst Chelsea fans with Hazard also reportedly (via the Telegraph) expected to tell the club he wants the move in the summer. While his departure would be a massive blow, no player is irreplaceable. Also, the Blues would have a massive budget to source a replacement as soon as possible.
One man who should be on Sarri’s shortlist is Napoli maestro – Lorenzo Insigine. Valued at £67.5m by Transfermarkt, the pair worked together at Naples and Sarri helped bring the best out of the Italy international. Insigne was a pivotal member of the squad that pushed Juventus all the way in the title race, scoring eight goals and registering 11 assists under the Italian’s tutelage last season.
Once again, the 27-year-old has been in excellent form in the Serie A, netting eight goals and registering five assists; Insigne has also scored three goals in the Champions League this season. Blessed with frightening pace and expert dribbling skills, he would be a ready-made replacement for Hazard on the left wing. Already adept to playing in a Sarri system, his arrival in England would be seamless.
It would take a mammoth fee to prise him from Italy but a reunion with his former boss at Stamford Bridge could prove to be a masterstroke.
