Chelsea supporters in the Transfer Tavern are mindful that time is running out in the transfer window.
It’s been apparent throughout the summer window that the Champions require reinforcements, yet with less than a week to go in the transfer market, the Blues have only secured the signing of four new players – one of whom is their backup goalkeeper, Willy Caballero.
Chelsea require depth in several areas of the pitch, and the midfield is no exception. With the departures of Nathaniel Chalobah, Nemanja Matic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s loan move, the need for another central midfielder is strikingly apparent.
Danny Drinkwater has been linked with a move to Chelsea for several weeks, yet reports in Portugal suggest that Conte may be prepared to hijack West Ham’s approach for William Carvalho.
The 25-year-old has established himself as one of Sporting’s most important players. The Portuguese international has made 155 appearances for the club scoring a total of ten goals.
He is highly regarded for his measured and composed approach to his defensive responsibilities; he is cautious when committing to challenges and he displays excellent control when dictating proceedings at the heart of the pitch.
His passing ability, particularly his through balls, is a key strength of his and he’s also a very capable dribbler who often drives his team forward. To possess a player of his undeniable class and experience would be incredibly beneficial to any Premier League team, the Champions are no exception.
