Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern have a very good reason to get excited ahead of the new season, with Antonio Conte taking the reigns at Stamford Bridge they can’t wait to see how his side will shape up, and they may have got a little insight into that already.
Chelsea defender, Baba Rahman has completed a loan move to Schalke this week and, speaking after making the move back to the Bundesliga, has shed light on how Conte’s side may shape up next season.
Speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten (via the Evening Standard), the 22-year-old said: “Chelsea manager Antonio Conte told me that he wants his team to be very defensive, but I am a rather offensive full-back.”
He continued: “So I would have had very little playing time. Conte advised me to leave on loan. We will see what happens after this season.”
The Italian manager has always fielded robust defensive sides, which was a main factor in the success of his Italy squad in France this summer.
However, the former Juventus boss looks to have signified a desire to play an even more defensive style in shipping the promising full-back out on loan, as opposed to keeping him as a more offensive option.
Chelsea fans, what do you make of this? Will Conte go all out defensive and park the bus this season? Let us know in the comments below…
