It could really be time for Chelsea to sell their star striker Diego Costa – here’s why

Whilst Dimitri Payet wanting to leave West Ham was of course big news last week, Diego Costa’s future getting thrown into doubt was surely bigger.

The suggestion is that the Spanish international does not like being in England to play his football and could be the subject of a massive bid from China to prise him away.

This all began last week after a row over whether he was fit or not for the game at the weekend against Leicester – which he was duly left out of the squad for.

Costa could derail Chelsea’s title charge after helping it be on track so far.

It’s certainly got the potential to throw Chelsea’s title race into doubt, too, with Costa the Premier League’s top scorer but actually, letting him go might not be such a bad idea.

Yes he’s world class and hard to replace but if he really wants to leave what’s the point in keeping him at the club disrupting morale?

Indeed, if a massive bid does come in for him Chelsea would easily be getting enough money to replace him and then some given they’ve already got Roman Abramovich bank-rolling them.

We’ve already seen how an unhappy Costa can upset the changing room and the team’s performances and so, in what seems like Antonio Conte’s biggest challenge to date, that has to be on many people associated with the club’s minds.

The Blues don’t look too fussed by it yet after beating the Foxes 3-0 but if this rumbles on with Costa downing tools, the club cannot go into the rest of the season without a proven top-class striker.
