As attentions turn from their nightmare season, with little still to play for, to the looming summer transfer market – Chelsea fans occupying the Transfer Tavern on this Friday evening have been split by reports linking Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.
The Daily Express suggest the West London giants are growing concerned at the custodian’s dip in form and apparent attitude problems, with incoming boss Antonio Conte reportedly ready to let him leave.
Over on the continent, Spanish publication Fichajes are claiming Real Madrid could make a blockbuster for the Belgian should they fail to land Manchester United stopper David De Gea.
Los Blancos infamously fell at the final hurdle in their attempts to lure the United ace last summer and he has since penned a long-term deal at the Theatre of Dreams.
As a result, they could move for the Chelsea man, who has previously excelled in La Liga while with city rivals Atletico.
His allegiance to Los Rojiblancos in the past is clearly not of great importance to decision makers at the Santiago Bernabeu, with De Gea having previously played for them before moving to England.
While Keylor Navas has been in top form this season, a big name replacement for club legend Iker Casillas has been a priority for them in the past.
Ironically, Casillas’ plight with Real began under Jose Mourinho, who later instilled Courtois as the long term heir to Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge.
The Spanish report goes on to claim that the likes of Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo could ALL be sacrificed as part of a major overhaul in the Spanish capital this summer.
Can Chelsea afford to let Courtois go? Would the Petr Cech sale become a HUGE mistake if so?
