Talk surrounding Chelsea player Frank Lampard is reaching fever pitch here at the Football Transfer Tavern, with The Mirror claiming that the player is set to be offered a three-year deal by Serie A side Lazio.
The Italian outfit have long been watching the 34-year-old and are ready to pounce offering the player exactly what he wants in terms of wages and also the length of contract. Elder statesmen seem to last longer in Serie A and a three-year deal is not an issue at all for the Rome giants. Current club Chelsea are unwilling to process Lampard’s demands and in a widely criticised and unpopular move, the Blues have told the player he can leave come the opening of the January transfer window.
Despite this, unpopular interim manager Rafael Benitez praised Lampard by saying: “Frank is an important player for us. His quality and experience are something we can use to help the team and we know he will score goals as well. For anybody to play a lot of games in the Premier League is not easy. To play 500 is massive, a big feat.”
Lazio could face competition from MLS side LA Galaxy and a host of clubs from around Europe for the player’s signature and Lampard is without doubt one of the Premier League greats.
