Diego Costa’s name has been one chanted all season by the Chelsea fans celebrating their return to the top of English football, though recent developments certainly have provided those in the Transfer Tavern with something to think about.
Amid suggestions of a mega offer from the Chinese Super League, both the Blues in the bar and our Manchester United-supporting punters have been met with a hugely interesting report concerning both titans in the Independent.
They claim Atletico Madrid are weighing up making a move to bring their former striker back to the Spanish capital this summer, what will be three years after he left the Vicente Calderon, to replace United-bound Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman is reportedly expected to join the Red Devils this summer for a fee of around £100m after becoming a superstar of European football with Los Rojibalcnos.
To that end, Diego Simeone’s side are believed to be weighing up a move for the 28-year-old, having been strongly linked with him for almost 18 months now. However, they could also face competition from domestic rivals Barcelona, who are thought to view the Spanish international as a potential alternative to the glittering front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.
While bids during this window are not believed to be out of the realms of possibility, the Premier League table toppers are understood to be keen on keeping the La Roja ace until the summer at least.
